Project Overview
Powering Public Wellbeing Facilities with Renewable Energy
Tameside Council sought to decarbonise two high-profile community hubs – Active Copley and the Tameside Wellness Centre – as part of its wider climate action agenda. C3 Group was brought in to design a solution that would be technically sound, fundable, and tailored to leisure sector energy demand.
What We Did
Designing for Funding and Operational Impact
Working alongside Robertsons Plc, we acted on behalf of the Council to develop a RIBA Stage 2 technical design submission. The goal: build a solid case for funding and provide a clear delivery pathway.
Scope of Work:
- Solar PV system design optimised for leisure centre roof spaces
- Energy management system specification to track and reduce usage
- RIBA Stage 2 technical design documentation
- Support for Sport England funding application
- Collaboration with all key stakeholders for coordinated delivery
This work was instrumental in securing funding during a highly competitive bidding round.
The Results
Funding Secured, Facilities Decarbonised
Tameside Council successfully acquired Sport England funding to install solar PV and energy management systems at both leisure facilities. The result is a reduced carbon footprint, lower energy bills, and stronger alignment with the Council’s net zero strategy.
